The First International Conference on Marine Mammal Protected Areas brought together over 200 MPA managers, scientists, and educators from 40 countries to engage in sessions that provided a forum for sharing information on approaches to marine mammal management and conservation.

The conference was held from March 30 – April 3, 2009 at the Grand Wailea Resort in Maui, Hawaii, USA. Plans for the next conference in 2011 or 2012 are already under way and will be announced later this year.
